Project 4 Progress!

As I said before I am extremely excited about Project 4.  I have actually already completed one of the three pieces that will be due for the project!  I have created a pamphlet about Take Back the Night.  The pamphlet entails many different aspects of the organization and things that come along with it pertaining to the URI community.  Let me tell you what is on the pamphlet!  On the front panel of the pamphlet I have the title of the organization with the logo and a little description to get people involved.  On inside panel one (back of the cover panel) I have other ways that people can get involved besides main events for Take Back the Night.  On the second outside panel (which is the first panel you see when you open the pamphlet) I put the URI event for Take Back the Night with all of the event details such as when and where it will take place.  Next on the second inside panel (middle)  I made this one all about sexual violence including statistics.  Then on the inside panel three (all the way to the right)  is history of Take Back the Night and where exactly it began.  Lastly, on outside panel three (back of the middle) there are a few upcoming events listed in different locations across the United States and also contact information.  I think my pamphlet looks great and is exactly what people need to get involved with this event and organization!  I plan on creating a flier as another piece of writing as well as one more which I am not sure of yet.  I was thinking of possibly doing an editorial or an ad in the 5 Cent Cigar!

Project 4 is in the Air!

Okay so we have a new project springing about, and hopefully the weather will catch up with this class!  For project 4 we must create three genres of writing from early, middle, and late publicity (one from each) and publicize an issue that we are planning an event for.  We want to publicize this issue and the event to get others on campus involved, as well as continuing efforts for this issue after the event has taken place.  The issue I was thinking of is one that is very rarely publicized or talked about in casual settings.  I also have never heard of it happening on our campus before.  After doing some research, I did find that the Providence campus may have been involved with this event in 2007.  The event would be "Take Back the Night."  This is an event that promotes the awareness about sexual abuse, sexual assault, rape, and domestic violence.  When these events take place candles are present as well as strong speakers empowering those to speak up for themselves.  It is also an effort to stop the silence so that more victims will stand up and be heard.  I believe this is something that should be publicized more not necessarily to put a spotlight on victims, but to press the issue so that it no longer continues in our communities.

I am not sure yet which genres I will be writing from either of multiple levels of publicity.  I am sure I will look further than the options offered in our course booklet.  I look forward to researching and finding out more about this social issue and the event I hope to hold.  I can not wait to create my pieces for this project!

Project 3 Update

I feel pretty confident with the final product I handed in for my project 3, which is an informative genre writing piece.  As I said before I wrote an informative speech on diabetes and insulin pump therapy.  I know I told you all about the research and basic knowledge I included in my speech, but I failed to mention the other voices that would be heard through my own voice.  I feel that it is important not only to hear from my personal experiences with insulin pump therapy, but also the voices of my peers handling the same every day struggles and successes of diabetes and pump therapy.  I work at Clara Barton Camp during the summer which is a diabetes camp for girls.  It was my first summer working at camp last year and I am going back once again.  The many friends I have made have changed my life for the better.  Most of the counselors working at this camp have had a lot more experience on insulin pump therapy than I have.  Their words to me and I hope to every individual who reads my speech are extremely encouraging and warm to the heart.  Their words and personalities are what keep me striving to live wirth this disease and more than live, persevere.  The voices of my peers come through a few times in my speech, which I think at those points at warmth and comfort to my speech, hoping to connect with the audience members.
